‘Henchmen’ Campaign Creation – Part 3 (final)

‘Henchmen’ Campaign – System: Fate Accelerated by Evil Hat Productions

In a fantasy world with strange races, magical powers and a hierarchy of heroes and villains, we are Henchmen – soldiers for hire and underlings to an evil Lord.

Character stats, aspects and backgrounds.

In my final post on our Campaign Creation, I wanted to give a quick overview of the characters that my players created. Although we went through a process of character creation on our Intro session, some players took their characters home to flesh out or change before the first gameplay session. I’ll be talking about the characters as they started the adventure.

I’m also going to list the stats and aspects of each character. If you’d like to learn more about what they all mean, check out the Fate Accelerated rulebook.

POLLY-ANNE – A teenage Troll, raised by humans to believe she is human too. Despite her age she is tall and strong, but she still has her teddy bear that she believes keeps her safe (and she is right – it is a talisman that magically protects her).

Approaches: Careful: +1   Clever: +2  Flashy: +1   Forceful: +3  Quick: +2   Sneaky: 0

High Concept: 11 yr old half-troll forced into henchmanship by her adopted human parents

Trouble: Quick Temper

Aspect #3: Likes banging heads

TIM – A very short and angry human Wizard who wears clothes many sizes too large, leaving his sleeves dangling on the ground.

Approaches: Careful:  +2  Clever: +3  Flashy: +2   Forceful: 0  Quick:  +1  Sneaky: +1

High Concept: The smallest Wizard

Trouble: Small Man syndrome

Aspect #3: Must have the last word

QUINN – A no-nonsense, get-it-done henchwoman with a family to support.

Approaches: Careful: +2   Clever: +2  Flashy: 0   Forceful: +3  Quick: +1   Sneaky: +1

High Concept: Down-to-earth, pragmatic henchwoman with other responsibilities

Trouble: Always consider my responsibilities

Aspect #3: None

Gunderbar ‘THE KNIFE’ DelToro – A flamboyant assassin who wears bright white clothing and wants to be noticed. Killed a prize winning albino giraffe to make a coat.

Approaches: Careful: 0   Clever: +1   Flashy: +3   Forceful: +2   Quick: +1    Sneaky:+2

High Concept: A flamboyant assassin who wants to be noticed

Trouble: The Giraffe’s owner wants to wear ME as a coat

Aspect #3: Has a reputation to uphold

HECATE – A woman who desperately wants people to think she is evil, but doesn’t like doing the wrong thing.

Approaches: Careful: +3   Clever: +2   Flashy: +2   Forceful: +1   Quick: +1   Sneaky: 0

High Concept: A wannabe evil sorceress who is the margarine of evil

Trouble: She wants to be a villain but doesn’t want to do the wrong thing

Aspect #3: Her magic rarely works as intended

These were the characters as they began the game. One of the unique aspects of FATE is that characters can be adjusted, aspects added or re-written, and Approaches altered to flesh out a character as the story progresses. I’m sure we will see this as our game continues, especially since some players struggled to come up with 3 strong aspects.

Now that we’ve reached the end of campaign creation, stick around for the details of our first gameplay session in Gameplay Session 1 – Part 1.
